Let’s get this main point out of the way now….

Breastfeeding is NOT the only option after you give birth. We support your choices, no matter what those might be!

SUPPORTING ALL MOTHERS INCLUDES SUPPORTING ALL INFANT FEEDING OPTIONS. FOR SOME, BREASTFEEDING IS A GREAT OPTION. FOR OTHERS, FORMULA FEEDING, COMBINATION FEEDING, OR EXCLUSIVE PUMPING IS THE WAY TO GO. WHAT WORKS FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY IS WHAT MATTERS, AND THAT YOU ARE SUPPORTED IN THAT DECISION. SOME INFO AND TIPS ON ALTERNATIVES TO EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING WITH A NEWBORN.

  1. Know that you have options. Just because your best friend exclusively breastfed for 3 years, doesn’t mean you have to do the same. Exclusively pumping, formula feeding, or a combination of all options are all best for different families. And you don’t have to explain your choices to anyone!

  2. Trying to decide which is best for you? Reach out to an Infant Feeding Specialist near you. They can help you weigh your options and find the best fit for you and your family. Be sure when you schedule, that this person will provide unbiased support. If you are in the Jacksonville Florida area you can find an infant feeding specialist here.

  3. Exclusive Pumping is a totally valid option for many mothers. If thats a route you would like to take, go for it! Here are two links with some great resources. https://exclusivepumping.com https://kellymom.com/mother2mother/exclusive-pumping/ An infant feeding specialist or lactation specialist may come in handy for you with this. Find one in your area and keep their number available if any issues arise.

  4. Combination Feeding works too! For some families, a combination of breastmilk and formula is the best solution. Figuring it all out can sometimes be difficult to navigate though. Don’t hesitate to reach out to a specialist or talk to your pediatrician for guidance with this! 5. Not interested in Breastfeeding at all? That is TOTALLY ok! Trying to find the right formula for your baby? Your pediatrician can give some guidance on this. Some tips here. Whether it’s organic formula, goat’s milk formula or another kind recommended by your local pediatrician or feeding expert… what’s best for one isn’t best for another. Keep it in perspective and stop comparing your feeding choices to others!

  6. Need to know how to “dry up” your supply? Talk to your provider for specific guidance. Here’s a link that may help you! If you experience any major discomfort, be sure to call your provider right away.

THE BIGGEST TAKE-AWAY WE WANT YOU TO HAVE FROM THIS… IS THAT YOU MUST FIND THE BEST FIT FOR YOUR FAMILY. IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT ANYONE ELSE THINKS. IF YOU NEED SUPPORT THROUGH YOUR POSTPARTUM SEASON, BE SURE TO FIND A POSTPARTUM DOULA NEAR YOU WHO CAN HELP YOU NAVIGATE ALL OF YOUR OPTIONS FOR EARLY PARENTING AND INFANT CARE. THEY WILL SUPPORT YOU AND YOUR GROWING FAMILY UNCONDITIONALLY AND WITHOUT BIAS FOR AS LONG AS YOU NEED THEM!
